Turkey & Syria Earthquake: How Can People Help?

Turkey & Syria

On February 6th, 2023, a deadly 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria resulting in more than 11,000 casualties in the two countries combined. Ever since the disaster, the world has been trying to offer all the help it can. According to the guardian, the World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested that the final toll could equate 20000 deaths since a similar earthquake killed more than 15000 people in 1999.

The catastrophe is unimaginable for the world. Everyone is trying to save their family, to do what they can to get their kids from under the rubble. Viral videos show kids under the damage trying to hold on while an aching father asks his son who’s stuck to recite Alshahada. The world stands helpless in the presence of such a disaster, and while everyone is doing what they can, we’ve gathered a number of ways you can help too, and even if it seems small, it will make a difference.

The Syrian American Medical Society

The Syrian American Medical Society said in a recent statement that they are on ground in Syria. The SAMS stated that they are in immediate need for trauma supplies in order to keep saving lives.

They are asking for donations since Al Dana hospital in Syria is damaged because of the earthquake.
