The Lost Art of Weekend Getaways and Keeping the Passion Alive

A regular weekday 7AM

There goes the alarm. I jump into the shower, get dressed, grab my coffee and bounce; trying to beat traffic to work.  Before I  know it; its 6pm! I pick up my phone to find two missed calls from wifey. I forgot to call her midday to check on her and now I even forgot to let her know I’m going to be late for lunch! I go home later in the day. She already had lunch, alone, and went out to catch her workout. I’m too drained. I grab a bite, chill on the couch in front of the TV, and the next thing I know my wife is waking me up asking me to get to bed. I tell her I miss her, kiss her, then off to bed.

It is common that partners lose themselves in the daily tasks, then they tend to take each other for granted unintentionally

This is a glimpse of city life. It is common that partners lose themselves in the daily tasks, then they tend to take each other for granted unintentionally.

A getaway is always a good idea; you get to spend quality time with your loved ones. I’m not talking about annual leaves only. A weekend is enough to recharge the energy discharged in the weekdays.

So now let’s picture a start of the weekend.

It’s 5PM. Out of the office I walk with excitement, calling my wife, aligning to go pick her up, take my packed bags and leave the city behind.

Finally, we’re on the highway. Ain El Sokhna is only an hour away respecting the speed limits. My wife and I take turns playing our favorite songs.

We reach Sokhna straight away to that nice restaurant overlooking the sea, both starving. Done with dinner, enjoying a moment of silence with the view. It’s been a long week and we’re happy to be here together. We then call it a night, looking forward to tomorrow. The weekend hasn’t even started yet!

Now that’s an alarm I like to wake up to, it’s the sunrise hike. Take water, couple of bananas and off we go hiking the mountain trail. It’s still dark but we’re doing this together, guiding and helping one another, sharing one flashlight.

Finally, the sunrise moment, absolutely worth the hassle.

After only five minutes of kayaking we’re in the middle of the water, where you hear nothing but the sound of gentle waves hitting the kayak

Later in the day after swimming and chilling by the beach, we decide to go for a kayak ride. After only five minutes of kayaking we’re in the middle of the water, where you hear nothing but the sound of gentle waves hitting the kayak, overlooking the mountain. Another breathtaking view, when could be a better moment for a kiss!

The second we decide to paddle back; we spot a pond of dolphins passing by. They were actually swimming towards us, magical moment.

That night we decide to cook dinner for ourselves. Then it’s Movie night time! Halfway through, I have to carry her to bed as she falls asleep literally 10 minutes into the movie.

Next morning, we have no alarms set for a change, enjoy a relaxed, unplanned day. Then we decide to head back to Cairo before the sun sets. It’s days like these that bond us closer, recharge us and make us feel alive and grateful.

To wrap up, building that bond between you two through traveling can take many forms. It could be trips for him or her, or trips with activities for both of you, and for sure it’s always nice to visit and explore a new city that has you both creating new memories, which act like a concrete base for your relationship.

Khaled El Gammal has always been a Dahab visitor since he was young, but recently he decided to drop everything he was attached to in Cairo and move to Dahab. Dahab welcomed him and treated him well. He made it there to enhance his skills as a free diver. He has been progressing enough that he decided to be a Free-diving Instructor. Now he tries to spread that joy as much as he can.
