Jewelry designer, Gihan El Shamashergy, continues to surprise us with her unique jewelry pieces. Gihan communicates real tales, and inspiring stories, with every piece she crafts. Her new “No Man’s Land” collection is yet another powerful addition to every woman’s jewelry box.
This collection is inspired by a medical condition called Vaginismus. This condition affects a woman’s ability to engage in vaginal penetration ,making it difficult –sometimes impossible– to have sexual intercourse. This pain is activated by involuntary vaginal muscle spasms, and is caused by psychological factors including sexual abuse, anxiety, and fear.
“We need to start speaking up about such topics and stop shying away”
The No Man’s Land collection is meant to open a discussion about Vaginismus, and help those who have experienced it. “Vaginismus is a condition that is very common among females in Egypt, but they don’t know that it’s a medical condition, let alone that it can be cured,” she says. “We need to start speaking up about such topics and stop shying away,” she adds.
Female sexuality is much more complex than just an organ, and failure to properly educate women about their bodies can lead to many consequences.

Gihan crafted this collection from stories of brave women who refused to be called sexually inadequate. “I interviewed many women in Egypt and Berlin who have suffered from this condition. They have been blaming themselves for years, simply because they were unaware that Vaginismus is a real medical condition,” she says.
“A portion of the profit from the sales of this collection will be given to hold awareness sessions on Vaginismus,” she explains. The collection is available in Gihan’s workshop and online. Check out Gihan El Shamashergy on Instagram and Facebook.
