A lot of men refuse to use condoms, even though they are excellent contraceptives, especially when the woman is unable to use a method of her own. The commonly heard excuse for this refusal is the lack of intimacy between the couple caused by using a condom. A recent study, however, confirmed that men and women feel the same amounts of pleasure during sex, whether the man is using a condom or not. Based on a survey that involved males and females aged between 18 and 59, this study concluded that following protective procedures during sex gives the partners a very pleasurable experience and that using a condom does not make it any less so.

The study also concluded that men in the west are more used to using condoms during intercourse and are more aware of their importance. This fact goes hand in hand with the fact that using a condom does not conflict with the desires of women.
On the other hand, an American study revealed that men have no problems getting an erection while using a condom. The study also added that women cannot tell the difference between a lubricated condom and an un-lubricated one during intercourse.
Using a condom has many benefits, including reduced percentages of premature ejaculation due to dulling the stimulus caused by friction between the penis and vulva. When a man puts on a condom, his sexual sensations are dulled and he thus experiences delayed ejaculation, which substantially increases the duration of actual intercourse. In these cases, it is preferred to use thick condoms, as thinner ones will not achieve the required result.
Do not use lubricants made of greasy or oily material, such as Vaseline or oil or cream. It is rather preferred to use water-based lubricating moisturizers that will prevent the condom from breaking.
Before using a condom make sure:
- Check the expiry date of the condom.
- Carefully open the package that holds the condom, making sure not to scratch it with the nails or jewelry.
- Hold the condom between two fingers and press on it to release any excess air inside.
- Do not use lubricants made of greasy or oily material, such as Vaseline or oil or cream. It is rather preferred to use water-based lubricating moisturizers that will prevent the condom from breaking.
- After ejaculation, your man needs to hold the condom from the tip and pull it out before losing his erection to prevent the semen from leaking out.
- Tie up the condom after using it and throw it in the trash.
In cases where partners are not infected with a disease, using condoms irregularly appears to prevent disease transmission in a percentage of the cases since there was no STD infection in the first place. Despite that fact, if one partner is infected with AIDS, there is a huge risk of transmission with every intercourse occurrence where a condom is not used. Therefore, using condoms irregularly provides minimal protection against AIDS when compared with not using them at all.
