Want to predict the gender of your baby? Try this Ancient Chinese Calendar

Have you ever wanted to predict the gender of your baby before an ultrasound can pick it up? Or even decide the gender of your baby by choosing when to get pregnant? Well this Ancient Chinese calendar seems to allow you to do that…

What’s the story behind it?

Although no one really knows why or how exactly it seems to work, legend has it that Chinese astrologists used the moon cycles in Imperial China to determine the genders of the baby in order to ensure male heirs for the Emperors. Their research led to the creation of this calendar.

So how do you calculate it?

All you need to do this is two pieces of information: 1) The month of the conception- so the month that you had your last period. 2) Your age when you got pregnant. Note: this is not necessarily your age when you give birth!

Even if you aren’t pregnant you can test it out on yourself based on when your mother conceived you and your siblings.

Find where you are on the chart, with Blue representing a boy and Pink representing a girl:

Although there are lots of online calculators out there, this one uses the lunar calendar as opposed to the regular one, so tends to give more accurate results.

Does it really work?

There is no real scientific evidence to suggest that a calendar such as this should work. Scientifically speaking, the gender of a child is dependent on the father’s sperm as it is the sperm that contains the chromosomes relevant to gender. However, this calendar does seem to have surprisingly high levels of accuracy and people all around the world swear by this it. We tested it out on members of our team here at the magazine as well as our friends -who were surprised to receive messages asking how old their mothers were when they were conceived- and for the vast majority of the people that we tested it out on, the calendar correctly predicted their gender!

It may not be 100% accurate, so maybe avoid getting your heart set on baby names and clothes on the basis of its prediction. But still, science doesn’t always explain everything, so you never know there could be some ancient wisdom that we aren’t aware of behind this method!

Try out the calendar for yourself and let us know if it works for you!
