The Secret to Staying Young? It’s a State of Mind!

Here is a secret that’s been around for centuries. It’s been whispered among gypsies, practiced by yogis, shared among children, and traded by a few. It’s called the fountain of youth. Is there a way to stay young forever? Yes, there is. But, first, we need to set the parameters of what it means to be young, how long is forever, and find a link between them.

Youth can be defined as two things

Youth can be defined as two things: the time of life between childhood and adulthood, or the actual qualities of what makes that time worthwhile. Let’s discuss the one within our control: the state of mind. What makes it special, attractive and nostalgic? To put it simply, it’s the willing ness to explore and learn, to try new things, and to break free of safety and earn the freedom to explore yourself and the world.

I have news for you.  The world is vast and endless, and creativity may spark at any moment through the state of play, curiosity, and exploration; or a mental state of not knowing. Regardless of your current age, there is always room to break free of safety and explore.

Now to address the concept of forever. We can think of desire as the absence of which we seek fulfillment in beauty. In other words, if we learn to love things as they are, not as we want them to be, the desire to possess diminishes. Then if this state of infinite longing could be trained on the truth, we would have path to wards actual knowledge of self. And forever no longer becomes a timeframe that we are trying to expand, but simply moments we are forever exploring. Forever then may be redefined to “for as long as we are alive”.

Youth and beauty have always been intertwined concepts. Yes, one can have a beautiful body, nice skin, cool hair, but all that is based on perspective. Beauty as a concept has traditionally been counted among the ultimate values, with goodness, truth, and justice. In that sense, beauty not only directs our attention but also our desires. So it’s extremely important to define what you perceive as beauty, and always question and be willing to unlearn the roots of desires that are not your own.

The greatest levels of happiness are achieved by people who take a lot of steps to steer their life in the direction they want, while at the same time accepting that there are many things that are out of their control. Two things that are definitely within our control are how we think and how we act. That said, you are always one thought and action away from changing who you think you are, to who you want to be.
