That’s why we Saw Less Teddy Bears this Valentine’s! Closeup is Fighting Cheesy Gestures

This Valentine’s Day, Closeup kicked off their #Kefaya_dabadib campaign, encouraging couples to build up the courage (#khalik_gari2) and get closer (#Ela2rabAhla) if you know what we mean!

The clever, funny video encourages men to let go of the Teddy Bear tradition, in favor of a more personal present this year, and we couldn’t agree more. Most couples won’t benefit from getting each other stuffed animals, but they will really benefit from a healthy closeup to one another. When celebrating the day of love, be with the person you care about the most. Have a romantic getaway, go on a nice date, or even take a walk together for hours.

Being romantic was never synonymous with being cheesy, it just happens to have developed that way due to cheesy, unrealistic movies. The Teddy Bear trend became suffocating because it’s juvenile and devoid of emotion, really. It is a present fit for a child, not an adult.

Closeup’s video rings true because in an adult relationship, this kind of cheesy puppy love shouldn’t take over. Yes, a cheesy gesture might be cute every now and then, but a couple in an adult relationship should know how to show their love through adult-like channels. Appreciating the other person’s company, taking part in their interests, having fun with them, giving them a present with a meaning, or simply spending some quality time with them are all better options than a cheesy red stuffed animal that is bound to stay on the shelf collecting dust.

Give your partner a reason to get closer to you and share a special moment, not a fleeting date filled with glittery objects that belong in a child’s room. We sure are grateful someone actually said it, enough with the Teddy Bears, this isn’t your niece, get closer to your loved one instead. Don’t let pop culture distort your vision of love, because really, the simpler the better.
