Let’s start by painting a picture of something that has happened to all of us before. We all came to a point where we needed to get things fixed at home, but after considering the hassle we have to go through to get that done, we start to panic. First, we tell the doorman to find someone to help us. He forgets, so we tell him over and over again. He finally brings someone and we have to spend the next few hours breathing down their neck to make sure the work is properly done. Our house becomes a mess, and of course there is the 15 minutes of negotiating the price. And only a few days later it’s broken again and you have to start all over.
Fil Khedma is a service that was inspired by that exact story! We spoke to Omar Ramadan, the Founder of Fil Khedma, to find out more about this new service. Omar explains, “I wanted to create a business out of something that would solve problems and make a difference. I felt like this was the perfect opportunity for that. Fil Khedma is a service that provides technicians for whatever problem you are having at home”. They have plumbers, electricians, carpenters, satellite dish experts and people who fix air conditioners, aluminum doors and windows! Their service is available from 9am and they take their last order at 5pm. They are available at New Cairo, Maadi and recently Heliopolis.

Fil Khedma’s process is quite simple, “it’s a very easy and smooth process, you simply call or login to the website, you explain the problem and the customer service agent will identify what kind of technician you need, set an appointment and tell you the cost”, Omar explains.
Another issue is how safe it is for women. Naturally, this was the thing we were most curious about, “we hire our people full time; we have all their information and check their background before hiring them. Of course we track who is dealing with which order”, Omar says. One of the things that vouch the most for the safety of Fil Khedma is how many orders they received since they started out, “we have gotten around 3500 orders since we started and not once have we gotten any complaints of that nature”, he tells.

Fil Khedma started in 2014 and are quickly expanding, they hope to cover all of Cairo by the end of the year and then move on to Alexandria and later other cities in Egypt. They also hope to tackle more services like painting and finding technicians to fix electric equipment.
Although Fil Khedma might be slightly more expensive, you pay for safety, convenience and reliability.
