For Maii Waleed, “Louloua” marks a triumphant return to the spotlight after a hiatus. She is reaffirming her position as a versatile singer-songwriter. She is also a pianist and guitarist. Born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, Waleed’s musical journey is full of many influences. Furthermore, she used to play drums in the all-girl Metal band Mascara. She was also once part of Telepoetic, an Electro-Rock Egyptian ensemble. She dropped her EP album, Moga, which Zeid Hamdan produced, in May 2013. Waleed describes her songs as “very sad, based on disappointment, on my life”. Many of them focus on themes of love and identity.
