Getting a tattoo has been frowned upon in our culture for a very long time. Even though there has been a lot of debate on the topic, religiously speaking, people in Egypt aren’t very accepting of the idea. Then, the concept of tattooing eyebrows came along and people have no problem with that. Why is that?

The pain is definitely a lot worse when it is on your face. All tattooing processes involve puncturing the skin using needles and inserting ink.
Tattooed eyebrows among women in Egypt have become surprisingly common. Every woman that thinks her eyebrows are too light can easily make the decision to go get them tattooed. This is probably mostly due to the convenience of not having to fill in their eyebrows every single day, and not having to worry about runny makeup when swimming.
That being said, getting a tattoo isn’t a decision that should be taken over night. It needs a lot of thought and commitment. You also need to find a qualified tattoo artist and make sure you get the shape you want and, of course, a clean environment.

Still, why do we think it’s absolutely normal for a girl to get ink punched under her skin on her face but not on her arm, shoulder or leg? Why are butterflies, dragons or flowers obscene but a couple of straight lines across your face aren’t?
It all comes down to what is socially acceptable; what is the “norm”. Society doesn’t care if you tattoo your eyebrows because they can’t really see it. Your parents will think it is okay to tattoo your eyebrows only because others can’t judge you for it. So you will find that those around you are more flexible about it and you won’t get judged for getting a tattoo as long as it is hiding in plain sight on your face. This is quite ironic considering that if you believe tattoos to be a sin, you will just refrain from getting any, and if you think they are not a sin, you will get any tattoo you like. However, that is not how it’s done here; tattoos being a sin or not isn’t the issue. It is not out of fear of God that people refrain from getting tattoos, it is out of fear of their fellow humans. Adults shouldn’t think this way, and should be allowed to believe what they want without fear of being judged. To accept a certain kind and not another just because society accepts one more than the other, can only be described as hypocritical.
