Does this Prove that Women Can’t Drive?

A photo of a car lodged at the top of escalators at Seven Stars Mall has been circulating Facebook recently after being published by the Facebook page Egyptian Auto Market. Little did they know, but this isn’t the first instance of this photo being published, according to some commenters, the photo went viral a little over a year ago.

“The comment section is still overflowing with comments that only serve to ridicule women’s driving.”

Most of the comments, by both men and women, contained complaints about women’s driving. The comment section is still overflowing with comments that only serve to ridicule women’s driving. All of this is taking place even though there is not a single woman in the picture. This, naturally, resulted in numerous debates in the comment section about women’s ability to drive. Regardless of the fact that one cannot judge all women collectively, just as one cannot judge any group of people as a whole based on the abilities and/or behavior of some.

“while women are often made fun of in regards to their driving skills, it is men who get in the most accidents.”

Regardless, the debate went on. With some people citing that while women are often made fun of in regards to their driving skills, it is men who get in the most accidents. Others took to stating their personal experiences with female drivers who did not show great driving skills.

“Apparently, she was overwhelmed with how many cars were around her, panicked and moved forward instead of backing up”

Eventually, a few commenters who were present at that particular incident told the story as they have seen it. They all agreed that it was, in fact, a female driver, and that it also was an honest mistake. Apparently, she was overwhelmed with how many cars were around her, panicked and moved forward instead of backing up out of her parking spot, resulting in the car being propelled forward and getting stuck at the top of the escalators.

All this being said, the incident itself cannot, should not, be used as means to judge all of women’s driving skills. When a woman’s husband starts a little house fire while boiling an egg, you don’t see her questioning the fact that some of the world’s greatest chefs are men. We’ll answer the question in the title with a question of our own:

It is the year 2016, why is it still so difficult to not cast judgment on an entire group because of some individual’s actions?
