Cheesy Potato Gratin

New fun recipes are sometimes hard to come by, especially with our current situation in mind. We find ourselves searching for something new and delicious to make, yet it’s hard to get kiri-ative these days.

That is why we at What Women Want… Magazine collaborated with Kiri and created the #Kiri_ativeChallenge. Our favorite foodies set each other off on deliciously creative adventures, where each foodie received a basket from us at What Women Want… Magazine and Kiri, containing ingredients which they must stick to while creating their all new recipes.

Passant El Molla from @thefoodreview_ was challenged by Sara El Refaie from @kitchen_keys to come up with the most delicious recipe she can think of, something flavorful, cheesy and creamy. Here is how it turned out.

Cheesy Potato Gratin

 Ingredients:

1 cup milk

3 garlic cloves

Pepperoni

5 potatoes

¼ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp onion powder

8 squares Kiri cheese

½ cup mozzarella and cheddar cheese mix

1 cup whipping cream

¼ tsp paprika

Thyme

Flour diluted in water

Salt and pepper

Directions:

Start by cutting the potatoes into thin slices. Then, melt six squares of Kiri cheese in the microwave and pour onto the potatoes, making sure to coat all of them in the creamy cheese.

To make the sauce, melt a small piece of butter in a pot and add the garlic cloves (whole). When the butter melts, add the milk and cream. Then add the thyme, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper and stir well. Then, add your water and flour mixture to give the sauce a nice consistency. To add richness, add two squares of Kiri and stir until melted. Finally, fish out the garlic cloves.

Prepare the casserole by adding a little of the sauce to the bottom. Then start layering the sliced potatoes, with a slice of pepperoni between each few slices of potato. Pour the sauce over the potatoes until nearly fully covered, top with cheddar and mozzarella, and put in a pre-heated oven for an hour covered with parchment paper and foil. During the final five minutes of cooking, uncover and light the grill to get a nice golden crust.
