A photo went viral of an Egyptian man wearing a cardboard box on his head. On such a hot summer day, we’re not surprised. Today’s temperature is 44, and apparently tomorrow will match today’s heat! The heat wave will break off starting Tuesday and by the time we reach the weekend we’ll have tolerable temperature of 31 degrees.
While it’s saddening that Egyptians have to resort to such methods to keep the heat at bay, it’s a testament of how creative we as a people are. Keep in mind the fact that we are the same people who put up fans next to their computer cases to keep our processors cold.
Egypt should employ rules to keep laborers in the shade (or even give them a day off) when the temperature is this high.
