A Voice For The Voiceless: EAA Hosts A Plenary Session

The current humanitarian crisis in Gaza keeps escalating.  The brutality and violence against them grow more horrifying by the second. Tomorrow, the Education Above All Foundation (EAA), the international education non-profit foundation, will host a plenary session focused on education under attack, what is happening to young people in Gaza, and the long-term effects of the ongoing violence.

More than half of the residents of Gaza are children. These innocent children live under day-to-day attacks with no clear stop to the apartheid state. According to Save the Children, the number of Palestinian children killed in Gaza in the last three weeks has surpassed the annual number of children killed across the world’s conflict zones since 2019. Schools used to symbolize endless opportunities, their future prospects, and growth. Now, they are being  used as shelters amidst the continuing bombing and ground offensive.

The talk will bring together students from Gaza, educational experts, and psychiatrists. Also, it will host a panel on the trans-generational trauma of the war. The session will include talks from Atha Ahmed, a student alumnus from Gaza. Another talk will feature Dr James Gordon, a psychiatrist who authored Transforming Trauma: The Path to Hope and Healing. In addition, Anas El Sherif, the photojournalist based in Gaza will share a video of their experience.

EAA is established by Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser, a long-time advocate for universal education in the developing world. EAA is empowering millions of out-of-school children to overcome barriers to quality education through its many programs working together with partners in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Through ‘Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict’, EAA is working to build a global alliance for the protection of the right to education, especially in regions affected by conflict, environmental disaster, violence, and insecurity.
