Every new mom faces a lot of challenges that either make or break her, but the way we react to those challenges is what makes all the difference. Me for example, being a mother of twins, I faced a lot myself, but I felt that the one thing that really keeps me going is seeing other heroic moms who strive to beat all odds and be up to their fate. The more I saw that, the more I felt that I can cope with whatever I perceive to be difficult or challenging. Then I found myself looking for more inspiring stories. I don’t know if I was looking for them to make myself stronger, or if I was amused seeing strong examples of women around me. Now I decided that I don’t want to keep these stories to myself, but rather share it with you all. So, starting today I will share with you stories that made me stand still, stories that show how strong and flexible women can be.
“She didn’t only accept losing one eye, but also thought it was something simple compared to other people around her who had bigger problems.”
Today I chose a story that is very close to my heart, a beautiful mother of twins who woke up one day to find that she can see with one eye only. The beautiful thing is that not only did she accept this; she is living her life to the fullest, and is maintaining her career besides taking care of her adorable angels. She made me feel so little listening to her story. She is a true example of acceptance. I adored her tone while telling me her story. She didn’t only accept losing one eye, but also thought it was something simple compared to other people around her who had bigger problems.
“I came back to Egypt full of despair but I decided that this accident wouldn’t put an end to my life.”
Sarah’s Story:
There is a well known saying that says “kids are the light of our eyes”, while for some people this is just a phrase, for Sarah it is a very true fact of life. Four years ago, I started to feel a horrible pain in my neck, which had no explanation. I went to doctors in Egypt with different specializations, but no one could know the reason of my pain. Months passed by and this pain started to affect my sight, I felt that my right eye was getting blurry, so I checked more doctors, but it was all in vain. One day I woke up to find out that I can only see with my left eye. I went to the best hospitals in the world not only to cure my right eye, but also to save the other one. Until now, no one has an explanation as to why this happened. I came back to Egypt full of despair but I decided that this accident wouldn’t put an end to my life.
At first I thought maybe I could let go of all the things I can’t do with one eye, but I wanted to live normally, be independent and remain successful in my work. It was not easy, I had many trials and accidents but God gave me the strength and willpower to carry on. I strongly believe that happiness is a decision; I can safely say that it is my life motto. You decide whether you will be happy or not, no matter how much you carry in your heart. When I knew I lost one eye, I didn’t want that to define me. I have always been a strong woman and thankfully I was doing very well in my career so I wanted to continue this kind of bright life I had.
“I taught myself how to use the laptop with one eye only because I wanted to remain successful in my work. I learned how to drive with one eye only, because I don’t want to depend on anyone”
I taught myself how to use the laptop with one eye only because I wanted to remain successful in my work. I learned how to drive with one eye only, because I don’t want to depend on anyone. I am very thankful because after some time, I managed to do it all alone. Then I faced another challenge, I had to take a lot of cortisone shots which negatively affected my hormones, accordingly I had no babies. I have never complained to anyone after this accident except God, this might be the reason why I stayed strong.
I hate to see a look of pity or feel compassion from someone who feels sorry for me. I kept praying for God to give me a baby to compensate me for my eye loss. A few months later, I got pregnant with twins. I am enjoying my life to the fullest and only wish that God saves my left eye so I can keep seeing them. So I would love to tell every mother that no matter what she goes through, she has to stand still and be up to it. Only you can pick yourself up in the midst of your troubles.
“I kept praying for God to give me a baby to compensate me for my eye loss. A few months later, I got pregnant with twins”
I looked at people around me and I saw many with much bigger problems than mine, so I felt I can take this test. It is not something fatal, it is just something that might be challenging for a bit of time, but by practice, it will get easier and I can cope with it. The fact that I took the decision to be strong made it easier for me, as I was trying to find all the ways to overcome my problem and help me lead a successful life.
“So for all the drama queens, me on top of the list, stay strong in front of any challenge that comes your way.”
Hearing Sarah’s story left me speechless, because I knew that the reason she survived this incident was her strong will. How many times do we stand helpless in front of milder issues? We even tend to complain about much simpler things. We unfortunately become more vulnerable after being mothers, because we have this kind of self-pity even about the most trivial issues. So for all the drama queens, me on top of the list, stay strong in front of any challenge that comes your way.
