Eid is coming up, which means many, many trips away from Cairo and in Sahel’s direction by the majority of Egyptians. In the past, we’ve experienced many hours spent on the road in the scorching heat. According to various reports, we’re not going to have to do so anymore.
A new road connecting Marsa Matrouh to Cairo has been in the talks for a while, with some skeptics, and many supporters. The new road, which was reportedly built with the assistance of the Egyptian armed forces, was reported to be 190km between Cairo and Al Dab’aa, and 140km and even 135km from Cairo to Al Alamain on different news outlets.
“While some claim they have used the new road and praise it, others say they haven’t noticed it, and many more claim they have seen it open, but don’t say anything about whether they’ve tried it or not.”
When the news came out, Da Begad posted saying it’s impossible to have a road connecting Cairo and Al Alamain that is only 140km, as a straight line between the two cities is 210km.
The road was scheduled to be open to commuters on July 1st, and so far there have been inconsistent news about its functionality. The most common news reported so far is that it’s in its trial stage. While some claim they have used the new road and praise it, others say they haven’t noticed it, and many more claim they have seen it open, but don’t say anything about whether they’ve tried it or not.
Even if the distance isn’t 100km less than that we used to endure during the past few years, this must be better! We expect it to affect the North Coast as a whole. And honestly, we can’t wait to try a new shortcut in our pursuit of the beach.
