The One Where Joey and Chandler Live in Egypt

Maybe it was a black hole of some sort, a teleporting phenomenon or even witchcraft, but Joey and Chandler had found themselves living in sunny Cairo instead of New York. Naturally, life went on, let’s say more or less.

Career

For starters, Chandler’s talents as an IT Procurement Manager weren’t paying off as much as they did in New York. Still, he continued to be the one paying most of the bills – and, naturally, being broke by the middle of each month – because Joey never gave up on his dreams of fame and glory as an actor. Although all he did was small roles in every El Sobky Eid film out there.

Lifestyle

Their lives remained the same for the most part, but certain things had to change. For starters, the chick and the duck had to be constantly indoors because Madam Fawzeya from the opposite apartment nearly killed them both, thinking she’s doing them a favor “I thought I borrow them for my son’s ‘Sabaheya’, What you eat if not chicken and duck?”, she explained to an extremely angry Chandler and a teary-eyed Joey, as they held onto their pets.

Dating

Joey had to explain himself numerous times to the doorman, as well as a number of spectators from other apartments in the building when a lady friend of his would spend the night. After the third yelling match – marked by lines like “there are children in this building!”, he decided to do things the easy way and dress his girlfriends as men every time they were to go to his apartment. Chandler’s situation was not much better, as his commitment issues were doubled “does every girl I date have to bring up marriage two weeks later? Can this be any more ridiculous?”, he said frustrated.

Perks to Living in Egypt

The weather was generally nicer and not cold as New York. Shopping for groceries was easier, as well, all the boys needed to do was lower the basket to the doorman and he would get them everything they wanted from the nearby kiosk. And there is always that one time when both young men caught a bad flu and Madam Fawzeya made them soup for the entire week (thankfully, the chick and the duck were not harmed in this process).

Aftermath

After years of taking on small roles, Joey finally landed a life-changing role in Nour El Sherif’s El Daly series. Chandler had been dating one of his close friends for years and they wanted to move in together. Of course, this was not possible as that might have gotten them arrested. And so Chandler was left to pay the rent on his own. Luckily for him, Joey’s big break was short-lived and his character was killed only two weeks into the show, when he asked why that was the case he was told “elmokhreg 3ayez keda”.
