So I’m walking down the streets, in peace, minding my own business, carrying a whole lot
of boring stuff (books and all), looking as geeky as hell, when all of a sudden three guys
come past me. So what do they do in the middle of the mess I’m in? They started commenting on my body structure and debating…
Three guys walking towards me, looking me up and down and sideways, stripping me off with their eyes. I felt so ashamed as if I was walking naked!
Guy 1: Oh not enough boobs there huh?
He said that with as tone as if it was a turn off for him and he used the Arabic version of boobs- the dirty Arabic word.
Guy 2: Hmmm??
Guy 2 again: Bas KOL dah men taht? (She has all of it in her ass)
Guy 3: La’a kowayessa (No, she is good).
I swear I know this all happened in a fraction of a minute but this is what I heard them
saying right before they crossed me. They made sure I’d heard every word. Men don’t have to be touching me to hurt me or to harass me.
BuSSy is a performing arts project that documents and gives voice to censored untold
stories about gender in different communities in Egypt. The project organizes storytelling
workshops and performances where women and men step on stage to share stories about
harassment, rape, gender discrimination, honor killing, forced marriage, Female genital
mutilation, motherhood, domestic violence, child abuse, mass sexual assaults and many
others, from different communities and cities in Egypt.
