After a long summer in Egypt, it was definitely nice being back in New York City. Even though it was insanely warm and I had terrible jet lag, all the designers’ shows exceeded my expectations, from Misha Collection’s stunning jumpsuit to Monique L’huiller’s beautifully patterned dresses. Fashion week never fails to surprise me.
During the week, many people were dressed in bold and bright colors, day dresses and cute shoes. Since the sun was out everyday, almost everyone was excited to be on the streets and to get their photos taken by paparazzi and street style photographers. They were everywhere! There were some pretty interesting looking hats as well. I love the creativity and fashion that people bring to the streets during NYFW in a generic sense. Anyway, in between all the mess of getting around the city and getting into ten cabs per day to attend different shows, I was furnishing my new studio in Hell’s Kitchen. Thank God, my mother was there to help; my token of appreciation for her was inviting her to all the shows with me. Thanks Mom. Let’s just say she enjoyed it! Here were how my NYFW day outfits played out – with the exception of the 6th day, which was a very stormy day to go out during:
Day 1
I wore an “Urban Outfitters” romper and “Steve Madden” heels.
I attended two different shows that day: The Australian Ready to Wear and The Sachin & Babi shows. There were many different designers debuting their collections during the Australian Ready to Wear shows. However, the one that impressed me the most and really stood out was CON ILIO, an Australian high end fashion label designed in Melbourne. His gowns were beautiful, with a lot of texture and high quality fabrics. The color palette was on point. I’ll never forget the emerald green satin tail. The Sachin & Babi presentation left me wanting to stay in my summer mood all year long. I’m guessing pastels and lace are here to stay, which is something I’m happy about. Inspired by ballet, all the silhouettes are feminine, airy and full of patterns. I’ve never seen live ballerinas in a presentation before. Lovely.
Day 2
I wore a “Maram” Dress, “Okhtein” Clutch, and “Forever21” boots.
I attended the Misha Collection, Lisa N. Hoang and Pamella Roland shows. All three shows wowed me with their collections. Trends to look out for are cut outs in the silhouette, metallics, polka dots, feminine silhouettes, slits, sheer and lace fabrics and that plunging neckline.
Day 3
I wore a “Missguided” shirt, “Topshop” boyfriend jeans, “Steve Madden” shoes, and a “Ted Baker” satchel.
I attended Layana Aguilar’s show. I loved the color palette and the coolness in her collection. The floral bombers and neoprene fabric played so well with the silhouettes.
Day 4
I wore an “Express” top, “Mango” pants, a “Rebecca Minkoff” clutch, and “Steve Madden” Heels.
I attended Leanne Marshall, ARTISTIX and Anniesa Hasibuan’s shows. All three of them displayed three different cultures. Leanne Marshall represented femininity and soft, floral dresses. ARTISTIX by Greg Polisseni, directed by Andy Hilfiger, represented art with a Rock & Roll theme. Anniesa Hasibuan represented Islam, and became the first designer to have models walk down the runway with hijab. All three were super different but definitely inspiring.
Day 5
I wore an “Ahl Masr” dress, a “Target” clutch, and “Steve Madden” heels.
I attended Monique L’huiller and Temraza’s shows. I loved Monique’s collection from start to end. The color palette, plunging necklines and floral patterns were stunning. TEMRAZA stunned the crowd with her pharaonic collection, full of detailed hand sewn beaded work with plunging necklines, sexy slits and textured capes.
Day 7
I wore an “Urban Outfitters” Dress, “Nike” shoes, and a “Rebecca Minkoff” clutch.
I attended the second presentation of Donna Karan’s line Urban Zen. The collection, also known as the Alchemist Collection was laid out so nicely. It reminded me of bedouins and the desert. The collection debute was for F/W’16 and consisted of wooven jackets and dark colors. Loved it!
