The Egyptian documentary titled ‘In Search of Oil and Sand’ continues its worldwide tour with one of its latest venues being 16th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts. Competing with 10 other films for best documentary, it follows Mahmoud Sabit, an Egyptian historian who inherited a palace that dates back to the royal family, as he unveils the story behind ‘Oil and Sand’, an 8 mm film shot by his parents and members of the royal court only a few weeks before the royal Egyptian family was overthrown in a coup d’état in 1952. The highly anticipated documentary has actually been screened in several film festivals worldwide and won “Best Director” at Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2012.
