Foul Me Once

 

 

If there’s one thing Egyptians are famous for, it’s their ability to win anyone’s heart over with a spoonful of their foul. There are so many khaltas to choose from, but believe us when we say we’ve probably tried them all! If there’s a time for new khaltas, it’s definitely Ramadan.

 

Here are a few brand new foul recipes created and tested by some of our favorite foodies:

 

 

 

 

 

Foul with Avocados

 

 

For those who like their foul “medammes” and their avocados in their guacamole, this recipe is for you. Prepare your foul as you originally do, then add:

Peeled, pitted and mashed avocados (relative to quantity)

2 diced tomatoes

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 teaspoon lime juice

Pinch of salt

Pinch of ground cayenne pepper

Half a diced onion

3 tablespoons cilantro

 

 

Cheesy foul

 

 

After we acknowledge how unappetizing the name of this recipe may be, we can get on to talking about how delicious it actually is. Who knew foul and parmesan would be a match made in heaven. Prepare foul like you usually do, only this time add:

Around 75g Parmesan cheese (modify according to quantity)

Allow the cheese to melt in with the foul before you lower the temperature

Remove off the stove.

You need to eat fast! The cheese tends to pull back together when it cools down.

 

 

Pink foul

 

 

Yes we think foul is sophisticated enough to go pink! There’s an added health bonus to this recipe because the pink comes from the added beetroot. Make your foul the way you usually do, then:

Mix in a cup of sliced beetroot.

Add just enough beetroot juice to keep the pink color visible

Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil.

Lemon juice to taste.

A pinch of salt.

 

 

Foul a’la pastrami

 

 

We all know and love the Egyptian favorite, eggs and pastrami. Try this recipe for an upgrade you won’t regret. Prepare foul like you normally do, then:

In a different pan, sautee pastrami in a tablespoon of butter until cooked.

Add half a diced onion and sautee until golden.

A pinch of salt.

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and eat hot!

A teaspoon of lemon is optional.

 

Sweet chili foul

 

 

A twist on our regular “shatta” and “zeit haar”, this recipe reaches out to the thai food lovers. Simply add store bought sweet chili sauce to your regular foul recipe to literally spice things up! Prepare foul like you usually do, then:

Add one tablespoon sweet chili sauce (brand of your preference)

Add half a diced onion

Optional: add mild jalapenos for a pop of deliciousness.
