Cold, eh? Where’s that warm Egyptian sun they taught us about in school?
It’s only on days like these where we are eternally grateful for the sun we so often take for granted. Verily, the five minute window when it appeared from behind the clouds the other day was like a prayer. And so I decided to count my blessings; and by my blessings I mean those embedded within Egypt that we’ve been taking for granted.
The Sun: In Cairo, it rains like six times a year, which leaves us with around 360 days of sunshine a year.
Beaches (Mediterranean): Egypt has some of the best beaches in the world. I kid you not. You can’t go anywhere and find crystal clear waters coming in shades of turquoise with silk soft white sands and a constant supply of sunshine. That perfect ensemble is rarely united anywhere. That’s mostly Sahel though, and the more you head west the better the beach.

More Beaches (Red Sea): An extended water front where the weather is perfect for a tan 10 months a year. Moreover, the diving spots; some of the best areas in the world to dive at are in Egypt. We already know that. And we all take it for granted.
Winter destinations (Long Trips): And by long I mean places you don’t go to for one or two days. Luxor, Aswan and Siwa. Some of us think Luxor and Aswan are the same, ah walahy! Some poeple think so, but they’re wrong. It just makes sense to do both on the same beautiful trip. Mesmerizing artifacts, hot air balloon rides, Nile cruises, simplicity and serenity. What’s not to love?

Then there’s the eternally beautiful Siwa where you get a chance to tan in bloody freezing February, jump in a spring or simply my favourite: Star gaze. By the way, Siwa is officially one of the top 5 places to sleep under the stars. I mean, it makes perfect sense. It’s a desert so there are no clouds. It’s an oasis in the middle of nowhere, so there is no light pollution. Brilliant!
Winter Destinations (Short Trips): Sokhna is under 90 minutes away from Cairo and you can be in Ras Sudr in under two hours! Y’all know about Sokhna, but Ras Sudr is more “in” now. You’d be lucky to get a reservation in Kite Loop or Matarma Bay, but you can always drop by in the morning and leave by night back to C- town. The water is cold, so don’t learn kite surfing now. Wait until March!
