Nestled in the corner of the Marriott Mena House, right next to the Great Pyramids of Giza, is an unexpected surprise: A small slice of Italy.
Alfredo’s, the Italian restaurant on Egyptian land, brings more culinary authenticity than you would imagine for the historic hotel, internationally renowned for its Egyptian tourism and hospitality.
The restaurant is tucked away in the coziest section of the property, amidst a plush garden and tranquil pool. No pyramids view here – but you won’t miss them! The pool glistens by day and the garden is beautifully lit at night, offering the perfect view.
We visited Alfredo’s to check out their new menu in search of something different from our usual restaurant routine, and Alfredo’s did not disappoint!
We were very warmly welcomed by the restaurant staff, who walked us through the new menu. While we sifted through the diverse range of options (literally – something for everyone!), our waiter brought out freshly baked and super-hot Italian soft bread immersed with olives and sundried tomatoes. Coupled with olive oil and Parmesan, this warm treat could fill your belly, but don’t fall into the trap! There is so much more to enjoy ahead.
We started with smoked salmon and shrimp salad, which to my pleasant surprise came on a bed of quinoa and smashed avocado. Super fresh, super light – with an extra twist of lemon, it’s perfection! We also enjoyed the rucola salad with avocado and Gorgonzola cheese, to die for. As well as the bruschetta with roasted tomatoes and pecorino. Every single ingredient in our starters was incredibly, beyond belief fresh!
We easily could have walked (read: rolled) out by then, but we had already ordered our mains and frankly, the food came out so quickly I couldn’t keep up! Seriously excellent service.
Since we wanted to try a little of everything, we ordered the veal Milanese with baby potatoes and salad, the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and mushroom, and the funghi pizza with fresh rucola. The veal was out of this world! In all the steakhouses we have been to, we have never tried a veal this good! Tip: order medium.
The fettuccine Alfredo was perhaps the creamiest, most comfort-food-in-your-face ever. And the funghi pizza had the perfect crisp on the outside, soft on the inside crust we all dream of.
All in all, it was a fabulous night away from our tried and true restaurant circuit. The perfect spot for a casual dinner with family and friends. Make sure to add Alfredo’s at the Marriott Mena House to your list!
