Mothers are magical forces to be reckoned with. Sometimes though, we tend to forget this reality till something happens that reminds us of their mystic greatness. Earlier this week, the World’s no. 1 squash player Mohamed El Shorbagy secured his place at the 2016 Qatar Classic final after defeating three time World Champion Nick Matthew 3-2. The win was not easy, and for the first half of the match El Shorgaby was loosing 0-2. He was emotionally down after his second point loss portraying clear disappointment through his body language, till his mother decided to leave the audience and go to him.

The Qatar Classic is an annual international squash tournament held in Doha, Qatar. The men’s tournament event is part of the PSA World Series. The Qatar Classic this year was held between the 13th and the 18th of November. The 17th was the day of the tournament that saw El Shorbagy’s surprising comeback. News outlets announced his win and Nick Matthew’s official website referred to it as an “astonishing comeback”, however it wasn’t until a Facebook post went viral when we were shown the explanation behind his comeback.
Upon seeing and feeling the disappointment her son was experiencing, El Shorgaby’s mother went down to the squash field, sat next to him and spoke to him. The images showed her tapping on his back, and speaking to him passionately. Afterwards El Shorbagy went on to win 3-2. His mother was the behind-the-scenes trigger to his win. She was the one who gave him the momentum, energy and motivation he needed to release all the disappointment and negativity he was experiencing to go on and win the match. Whatever she told him, whatever she did or expressed, it beautifully worked!
