Blooming Snacks – Flowers you can actually eat!

We squealed with delight when we realized that there was such a thing as edible flowers! Not only are they absolutely beautiful, but they are also delicious and aromatic. Beware, though, not all flowers are edible. Some of them are even poisonous. You would probably want to grow your own flowers as well. The ones you get at the florist usually have chemicals that might be poisonous. Here is a list of easy-to-grow flowers that are pretty, delicious and safe for human consumption.

Lavender

Lavender is very aromatic and works with many dishes. Add two lavender stems to your ice cream mix and enjoy a lavender flavored creamy goodness. You can also use it to taste with grilled salmon or chicken.

Mint Flowers

Unsurprisingly, they taste minty. Use them as you would use mint leaves. Drop a flower in your cup of tea, or add a few to your salad. They will definitely jazz up your already delicious snacks.

Rose Petals

We’ve all had rose water. Rose petals taste more or less the same. Just make sure to cut off the bitter, white part. You can use the remainder of the petals in ice cream, like lavender. You can also make rose petal jam, which is as delicious as it is beautiful.

Jasmine Petals

The most logical thing to do would be to add the extremely aromatic petals to your tea. You will not regret it. Use Jasmine petals in your spring salad, as well. It will add a lovely fragrance.

Rosemary

It can be used more or less the same way you use rosemary leaves. It works very well in salads or as a garnish. Also, if you mix a little bit of rosemary, salt and pepper with butter, it makes for a great starter with biscuits.
