10 Things you will Always Find at your Granny’s House

Our love for our grandmothers is unconditional, despite our recent revelations about their role in destroying our lives. It’s always about the little details that we find at their homes, too. Here are 10 Things you will always find at your grandmother’s house.

Quality Street Box full of Sewing Kit

Nothing screams Teita more than that deceiving little box with hundreds of needles and endless thread. We’ve all been fooled by this. Even when the chocolate box is extremely worn and “vintage” we almost always fall for it.

“English” Cake

It doesn’t matter if you go to your grandmother’s at breakfast, lunch or dinner, you will have her English cake. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a sweet tooth, had just eaten, or hate cake altogether. A classic Teita cake will either have dried fruits or be a chocolate and vanilla marble cake.

“They flaunt their talents proudly in the form of “canavas” portraits hung all over the house or taking other forms such as cushions or tablecloths.”

Cassette and VCR Tapes

And their corresponding ancient machines! If they want to watch an old film or play, they won’t download it online; they’ll watch the tape they’ve had for decades. When they want to listen to Um Kulthum, they’ll listen to her on a scratchy cassette. Teita loves analog!

Jewelry Box

You know you are Teita’s favorite when she takes out her jewelry box and gives you a necklace, a brooch or a pair of pearl earrings. The vintage box with sparkly vintage contents is one of the most magical things in Teita’s possession.

Ceramic Figurines

From the most magical things owned by your Teita to the creepiest thing owned by your Teita. Those little figurines haunted us all in our nightmares! Grannies usually get them at sobou3 parties, christenings and similar occasions. And, for some odd reason, they hoard them like crazy!

Old Picture Album

Probably with pictures of your parents doing all kinds of things they don’t want you to see. As a child, it was the coolest thing in the world when your Teita brought out her old, worn photo album and showed you daddy with his favorite stuffed animal.

“When they want to listen to Um Kulthum, they’ll listen to her on a scratchy cassette.”

Needlepoint Portraits (Canavas)

All grandmothers pride themselves in their arts and crafts abilities. They flaunt their talents proudly in the form of “canavas” portraits hung all over the house or taking other forms such as cushions or tablecloths.

Rivo

The answer to any medical problem! Headhache? Take Rivo for it. Stomachache? A couple of Rivo pills will help. Flu? This calls for Rivo. Panic Attack? Rivo!

Sewing Machine

Back in the day, almost all women could sew. We honestly think that is one of the coolest things to know how to do. Can you imagine being able to make your own clothes? That’s why Teita rocks more than you ever will. Teita can still make you a killer skirt or the flirtiest dress you’ll ever own.

Cologne

She isn’t a true Teita if she doesn’t own a ridiculously oversized bottle of “khamas khamsaat”. If she’s a more modern Teita, she’ll have Fa body splash.
