The Miraculous Story of A 5-Day Puppy Rescue Operation!

Three days ago, a post by Lena Shendidy went viral. In the post she said that her friends in Alexandria have been trying to rescue a puppy stuck under big cement blocks by the beach. The puppy was stuck for 20 days, but Lena’s friend Mau Gawad Hamada, knew about the situation last Thursday from another rescuer by the name Mariam Osman. And thus, the rescue operation began. We spoke to Mau about the operation which ended in the rescue of one adorable female puppy.

“the place she was stuck in was too tight for anyone to get her, and I brought a digging device, but that didn’t work either because it couldn’t dig into the cement”

When Mau arrived there, she realized that rescuing this puppy was not going to be easy, “the place she was stuck in was too tight for anyone to get her, and I brought a digging device, but that didn’t work either because it couldn’t dig into the cement”, she tells. Things seemed to turn to the positive when Arab Contractors (Almokaweloun Al Arab) said they were willing to provide a tractor to move the big cement stones. All they needed was Border Control Approval, as the Governor of Alexandria agreed to let the tractor move the rocks as long as that approval was obtained.

“we didn’t give her food for 24 hours and brought food that smelled strong and waited for her to come out from between the rocks. When she did, one of the rescuers threw himself on the opening between the rocks to prevent her from going back”

The next evening, with the approval with them, the rescue operation started, “the Arab Contractors got the tractor for free. They removed the first block, but couldn’t move more because the debris would have fallen on the puppy and killed her”, Mau tells. Present on site were also Border Control and Civil Defense Forces. After moving that one block, all they could do is wait for the dog to come out, “there’s a small coffee and tea kiosk there, the wife of the owner used to feed the puppy”, she explains, “we didn’t give her food for 24 hours and brought food that smelled strong and waited for her to come out from between the rocks. When she did, one of the rescuers threw himself on the opening between the rocks to prevent her from going back”. That evening, with the help of all the rescuers, kiosk owners, Civil Defense, Border Control and Arab Contractors the little puppy was rescued, and she was adopted the next day.
