The world lost a legendary musician with enormous talent in 2011. Amy Winehouse had died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.
Winehouse’s music was known for its old-fashioned, blues-y sound. She gained a lot of notoriety due to her cynical lyrics, distinct style choices, and throaty, soulful voice. A documentary about her life was directed by Asif Kapadia, the BAFTA winning filmmaker who was behind the film Senna. The teaser to his film, Amy, included interview footage, in which Winehouse eerily says, “I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it. I would probably go mad”.
