Are Marshmallows and Gummi Bears Really Dangerous?

 

 

Are candies, marshmallows and gummy bears, the appropriate item of food to use as a nutrition plateau breaking thing?In the following few lines, sports nutrition consultant and personal trainer Dr. Alhussein El-Shennawy will reveal some of the dangers and lethal side effects of the 3 above-mentioned items.

But before going into any details about the side-effects, it is very important to shed some light on the toxic ingredients present in them

 

Artificial Colors: Early this year, the FDA met to consider putting labels on foods if it contained any type of artificial dye. This is based on a growing number of studies that is linking hyperactivity or behavioral disorders to artificial food coloring. A 2007 Lancet study found “Artificial colors or a sodium benzoate preservative (or both) in the diet resulted in increased hyperactivity in 3-year olds and 8/9 year-old children in the general population.” They are also linked to asthma, allergies, and even cancer. Artificial Sweeteners: In an effort to keep the waistlines down of people down and diabetes at bay, a 2004 study from the International Journal of Obesity, found aspartame and sucralose may actually promote obesity by tricking the body into thinking that sweet-tasting foods and drinks do not contain as many calories as they really do. Another study found that diet sodas may double your risk for declining kidney dysfunction. The FDA receives more complaints about aspartame than any other food additive and has approximately 167 possible side-effects. But it has never been banned. Artificial sweeteners are often found in products that say, “no-sugar added,” “sugar free”.However, the quantity ingested plays a significant role here.

 

High Fructose Corn Syrup: Compared to traditional sweeteners, HFCS is cheap to make, sweeter to taste, and mixes easily in baked goods and liquid based drinks. It accounts for 10 percent of our daily caloric intake and Americans consume about 63 pounds of it each year. Research is finding thatHFCS is contributing to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It must be pointed out here, that HFCS is found in milk chocolates, gummy based candies, gelatins, lollipops, most candies, juices, soda pop.

 

Sodium Benzoate: Is a preservative often used to prevent molding to prolong shelf life in many of our food and drink products. There are concerns about the combination of sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in mixed forms as the chemical benzeneis cancer causing. In 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration revealed that the sodium benzoate in some soft drinks was reacting with vitamin C and similar acids to form the carcinogen benzene. It was not long after this announcement that news agencies like the BBC and internet blogs alike were filled with scathing headlines about cancerous drinks stocked on store shelves.Sodium Benzoate gives foods, candies and drinks that orange color and has a bitter aftertaste.

 

Butylatedhydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylatedhydroxytoluene (BHT): Used as a preservative to prevent foods and candies and the present fats from going rancid (often found in cereals, packaged oatmeals, breads). BHA and BHT are antioxidants. BHA is yeast defoaming, while BHT is used to preserve food, flavor and color. There is evidence that certain people cannot metabolize BHA and BHT resulting in health and behavior changes and increasing their risk for cancer. Ironically, BHT is banned in England, but not in the USA.

 

 

But what does this mean for the health of the person ingesting this stuff?

 

Sugar wrecks the hard-earned shining smile: When people consume sugar, the natural pathogens in the oral cavity mouth metabolize that sugar, breaking it down. And unfortunately, the byproduct of that reaction is straight-up acidic substance, which stays in the mouth of the person ingesting it for a whopping 20 minutes after each piece of candy, destroying the teeth’s protective enamel in a slow but persistent manner. The stunning solution? The person has to eat all the candies at once instead of snacking and spreading them all over the day and brush directly afterwards. It sounds counterintuitive to binge, but at least the time the teeth spend bathing in the enamel destructingstuff is minimized.

 

The sour stuff is super-acidic: Aside from bathing the teeth in the aforementioned nasty and aggressive byproducts of breaking down sugar, sour candy itself has a high level of acid, which can really mess with the content of the mouth.

 

Too much candy can block you up: Pure sugar candy (ones without nuts or chocolate) contain zero fiber, which typically helps things move through the digestive system very fast. So filling up on too many gummies, Skittles, and Twizzlers—and not leaving room for more nutritious, fiber-rich food—may leave the person in question with a serious upset stomach and on the long run suffering from malnutrition and deficiency in vital and essential elements.

Gummies are prime cavity-causers: In addition to being practically pure sugar, these sticky, gooey candies can hang around in the mouth’s crevices longer, giving the bacteria and acid an extended contact time to rot the teeth.

 

Gummies, candies and gummy bears are immunity busters: Ingesting this stuff will negatively affect the immune systemand thereby make the person in question more prone to be attacked by disease causing microorganism and viruses.

However, if our beloved ladies insist on having these candies, marshmallows and/or gummy bears, then they should make sure to focus on really having a good brush and floss after eating these above-mentioned items, and detox their human organism by eating foods rich in fiber (like fresh fruits and vegetables) .

 

On the very same day, they should hit the gym for 30 minutes to minimize the possibility of storing any fats and merry-go-round blood glucose levels and return back to their healthy and nutrient-dense balanced nutrition program.
