Diet Myth Revealed

It has been along time ago, since I started to hear from numerous clients, that they avoid ingesting dairy products believing that these items may hinder their tedious efforts to trim their tummies in a fast and efficient manner. Furthermore, one can notice that popular diets may promise quick weight loss, but calcium and other essential nutrients and elements are often absent from the menu, which can lead to various medical conditions e.g. osteoporosis. The problem here is that a lot of people associate calcium only with bone health. In addition to this, people tend to eat and drink dairy products which are high in fat preferring them over their fat-free counterparts.
 
All this created and manifested the myth, that dairy products will hamper their efforts to loose the excessive inches masking the ultimate beach body. Unfortunately, recent research papers and trials proved the polar opposite. According to several new studies, adding yoghurt to a nutrition program will rev up the body’s fat-burning engines, speed weight loss, attack the waist and annihilate the love handles. Researchers found that obese adults who ate 3 servings of fat-free yogurt a day as a part of a reduced calorie nutrition program, lost 22% more weight and 61% more body fat than those who simply cut calories and did not augment their calcium intake. In addition to this, yoghurt eaters lost 81% more fat in the stomach area than non-yoghurt-eaters. It should be mentioned here, that fat stored in the stomach area is the most dangerous fat. Excess fat in the midsection has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and several forms of cancer.
 

As a matter of fact, the mechanism of action has been described by scientists as follows. When a diet is low in calcium, the human organism responds by releasing hormones to conserve as much as possible for critical functions of the human body. One of these hormones, namely calcitrol, works by a dual pathway. On the one hand, it forces fat cells to store more fat, as the body assumes that food is scarce. On the other hand, it sends a signal to slow down the process of fat breakdown and oxidation. The end result is very obvious, as the human body becomes more efficient at storing calories in form of body fat. In summary, a low calcium restricted calorie nutrition regimen makes it harder to shed body fat. In contrast to this, high-calcium intake lowers calcitrol levels, thus increasing fat breakdown and oxidation. Examples of calcium rich items are milk, yoghurt, broccoli, sardines in oil and calcium fortified food. After all that, who dares to minimize the calcium content of his/her nutrition program?
